How to send money to Turkey

Turkey is a destination with a large number of Russians living there permanently and a developed instant payment system. We go through the options that work, how long they take and which currency is better to receive.

What matters about Turkey

The local currency is the Turkish lira (TRY). Its rate moves noticeably more than most currencies among our destinations, and that affects the decision: whether to hold money in liras or receive it in parts as needed.

The second feature is the FAST instant payment system, through which money is credited in minutes and outside banking hours. For the recipient this is the most convenient option.

Ways to send the money

  • To an IBAN account

The main option for rent, tuition and regular payments. The name in Latin letters and the account number are needed.

  • Instantly through FAST

Delivery in minutes, weekends included. The fastest route inside the country.

  • To a card of a Turkish bank

The money is available to spend right away — convenient for everyday costs.

  • Through cryptocurrency

When the banking route is inconvenient or the money is needed immediately.

Liras or dollars

If the money is spent in Turkey, it makes sense to receive liras: the conversion happens once, at the locked rate. If the amount is being set aside for months, the question is no longer about the transfer but about the currency of the savings, and that is decided separately.

What definitely should not be done is sending dollars to a lira account: the bank converts them itself, at its own rate, and you find out about it once the money has landed.

What the recipient needs

  • The first and last name in Latin letters — as written at the Turkish bank
  • The account number in international format
  • The name of the bank
  • Or the card number, if the money goes to a card
  • An understanding of the currency they expect the delivery in

Common mistakes

  • Dollars to a lira account

The bank converts them itself and at its own rate. The money should arrive in the currency of the account.

  • The name from the passport

What matters is the record at the Turkish bank: transliterations diverge.

  • Counting at the rate from a search engine

That is the interbank rate. What should be compared is the final amounts in liras.

How it works with us

Turkey has a direct rubles to liras pair: the conversion happens once, the rate is locked before payment and the fee is 1%. The exchange works the other way too, from liras into rubles.

The amount is named in liras — in the currency the person will see credited.

  • The direct RUB — TRY pair

One conversion instead of a chain through the dollar.

  • Both ways

Into liras and back into rubles — on the same terms.

  • From 15 minutes

For routes that do not depend on a banking schedule.

Common questions

Which way of sending money to Turkey is the fastest?

Instant delivery through FAST — the money arrives in minutes and works on weekends. For that the recipient needs a Turkish account.

Which currency should the money be received in?

Liras, if the money is spent in Turkey: that way the conversion happens once, at the locked rate. Dollars sent to a lira account are converted by the bank itself.

Can the money be collected without a Turkish account?

Yes — in cash by arrangement or through cryptocurrency. An account is needed for the banking ways of delivery.

How much does a transfer cost?

Our fee is 1% of the amount and is already in the amount we name as the one to be received. The recipient's bank may charge its own fee for an incoming transfer.

The lira rate moves — what happens to my amount?

Once locked, the amount to be received is not recalculated. That is exactly why the rate is locked before payment rather than at the moment of delivery.
