What matters about the UAE
The local currency is the dirham (AED), and its rate against the dollar has traditionally been very stable. The practical consequence: the difference between receiving in dirhams and in dollars is set not by market swings but by the conversion rate of the particular bank.
The banking system here is strict about identification: the recipient's name and the account details have to match exactly, and large incoming payments come with questions about the source of funds more often than on many other destinations.
Ways to send the money
-
To an IBAN account
The main option for those who live and work in the UAE. The name in Latin letters and the account number are needed.
-
To a card of a UAE bank
The money is available to spend right away, convenient for everyday costs.
-
To an e-wallet
An alternative to a bank account when there is none yet or it is still being opened.
-
In cash
For short trips: no account and no card needed, only a passport.
Dirhams or dollars
If the money is spent in the UAE, it is better to receive dirhams straight away: the conversion happens once, on our side, at the locked rate. Dollars sent to a dirham account are converted by the bank itself, at its own rate, which you do not control.
Dollars only make sense if the amount is not spent on the spot but set aside or passed on further.
What to check before sending
- The recipient's name exactly as it is written at the UAE bank, in Latin letters
- The account number in international format in full, with nothing left out
- The name of the recipient's bank
- The currency of the account: dirham, dollar or multi-currency
- The payment reference — on large amounts its wording saves an exchange of letters
Timing
| Option | Timing | What is needed |
|---|---|---|
| To an IBAN account | Usually the same day | The account details |
| To a bank card | From a few hours | The card number and the name |
| To an e-wallet | Minutes | The wallet identifier |
| Cash | As agreed | A passport |
How it works with us
The UAE is one of our main destinations, and it has a direct rubles to dirhams pair: the conversion happens once, the rate is locked before payment and the fee is 1%.
The exchange works the other way too — from dirhams into rubles — which is what people earning in the UAE need most often.
-
The direct RUB — AED pair
No chain through the dollar: the rate applies once.
-
Both ways
Into dirhams and back into rubles — on the same terms.
-
Cash at an office
By prior arrangement about the amount and the currency.
